Long term care (LTC) insurance will help you determine the best plan for your situation.

Long term care is the type of care that you may need if you can no longer perform activities of daily living by yourself, such as eating, bathing or getting dressed. It also includes the kind of care you would need if you had a severe cognitive impairment like Alzheimer's disease. Care can be received in a variety of settings, including your own home, assisted living facilities, adult day care centers or hospice facilities.

What is long term care?
Long term care can be broadly defined as care provided by another party for the benefit of those who are unable to care for themselves. Generally, long term care refers to the personal care and other related services provided on an extended basis to people who need help with certain Activities of Daily Living (ADL's) or who need supervision due to severe cognitive impairment such as Alzheimer's Disease. Care can be provided at home, in the community, in an assisted care facility or in a nursing home.

The need for long term care can happen in an instant or gradually as a person's health declines. Some of the reasons for receiving long term care include: chronic disease, prolonged illness, injuries sustained as a result of an accident, disability, or cognitive impairment such as Alzheimer's Disease that limits a person's ability to think or reason.
What is long term care insurance?
Long term care insurance typically helps pay for the long term care services you might need as the result of a chronic disease, serious accident, sudden illness, or cognitive impairment such as Alzheimer's Disease that can limit a person's ability to think or reason.

Long term care services may be provided by a health care professional such as a nurse, a home health aide, or other personal care providers such as family members and personal care attendants.
